For three years running, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has honored local students through its Driven Student program. This program recognizes students going above and beyond,  inside and outside the classroom. For the month of April, Tracy auto part Chevrolet Cadillac chose to honor automotive students in Plymouth South High School's Technical Studies program.

While the typical Driven Student celebration involves a pizza party at the school, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac provided these budding mechanics with something a bit more valuable: a training session on hybrid technology at the dealership.

"Even though hybrid cars have been around a while, our students really haven't exposure to them through our programs because the vehicles typically have five-year warranties and the owners bring them into the dealership for service instead of our shop at the school," said Randy Cabral, automotive instructor at Plymouth South. "Being invited down here to see that technology up close is a phenomenal experience for our students."

Rick McGue, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac service manager, led the training session. That included looking under the hood of two hybrids, one of those vehicles belonging to Bruins legend Bobby Orr. Tracy Service Te bmw chnician Steve Rasch also provided instruction on the hybrid technology and answered questions in between servicing the vehicles.

"The service component of our business is critical to the success or failure of a dealership," said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. "By having the kids visit the dealership, we're hopefully doing more than showing them a new technology but demonstrating the critical role they can play in our industry."

Solar on Display as Durham Tech Celebrates Sustainability

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 28, 2011– HILLSBOROUGH, NC - This weekend Southern Energy Management (SEM) is helping Durham Technical Community College host a Sustainability Fair to promote its Sustainability Technologies program. The second annual event at Durham Tech's Orange County Campus in Hillsborough will feature interactive displays, solar-powered live music, facility tours, and more. The session is scheduled for this Saturday, April 30, from 10 am to 2 pm.

One of the new highlights on campus is an 8.2 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system designed to demonstrate for students how various types of technology perform under different conditions. Morrisville-based SEM installed the array in December of 2010; it features 48 Sharp monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and thin film modules.

"It's always exciting to see more people showing interest in solar power, and this type of installation helps make it that much more accessible," SEM's Kyra Moore said. "These students will have a great op cadillac portunity for some hands-on experience you just can't get in the classroom alone."

The school has had the Sustainability Technologies program for a couple of years, and it is already garnering a lot of interest. Until now, a group of 18 trained electricians have been the only stu alfa romeo dents allowed to take classes in the program. But starting this fall it will be open to all students as part of the new Renewable Energy diploma. Classes touch on everything from building science techniques to solar installation.

"There is a significant amount of student and community interest in the Sustainability Technologies program," said Carlos Robustelli, director of Orange County Operations for Durham Tech. "The state-of-the-art Orange ferrari County Campus, including the new solar arrays, positions Durham Tech and Orange County to develop innovative and practical green training programs and initiatives. This is a growing industry, and having a solar array like this will help graduates prepare for jobs in the new green economy."

This Summer 2011 California DanceArts Presents The Los Angeles International Ballet Intensive

"Argentina Oil & Gas Report Q2 2011" is now available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 23, 2011– The latest Argentina Oil & Gas Report from BMI forecasts that the country will account for 6.01% of Latin America regional oil demand by 2015, while providing 5.48% of supply. Latin American regional use averaged an estimated 7.88mn barrels per day (b/d) in 2010. It should rise to 8.07mn b/d in 2011 and reach 8.69mn b/d by 2015. Regional oil production in 2010 averaged an estimated 10.03mn b/d. It is set to rise to 11.66mn b/d by 2015. Oil exports have been slipping, because demand growth has exceeded the pace of supply expansion. In 2001, the region was exporting an average of 3.46mn b/d. This total fell to an estimated 2.15mn b/d in 2010 and is forecast to rebound to 2.97mn b/d in 2015. The principal exporters will be Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil.

In terms of natural gas, the region in 2010 consumed an estimated 209bn cubic metres (bcm), with demand of 264bcm targeted for 2015. Production of an estimated 221bcm in 2010 should reach 273bcm in 2015, and implies more than 8bcm of net exports at the end of the period. Argentina's share of gas consumption in 2010 was an estimated 21.29%, while its share of production is put at 19.45%. By 2015, its share of gas consumption is forecast to be 19.46%, with the country accounting for 18.33% of supply.

The 2010 full-year outturn was US$77.45/bbl for OPEC crude, which delivered an average for North Sea Brent of US$80.34/bbl and for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) of US$79.61/bbl. The BMI price target of US$77 was reached thanks to the early onset of particularly cold weather, which drove up demand for and the price of heating oil during the closing weeks of the year.

We set our 2011 supply, demand and price forecasts in early January, targeting global oil demand growth of 1.53% and supply growth of 1.91%. With OECD inventories at the top of their five-year average range, we set a price forecast of US$80/bbl average for the OPEC basket in 2011. The unprecedented wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that followed the removal of Tunisian President Ben Ali on January 14 has obviously fundamentally altered our outlook, particularly since the unrest spread to Libya in mid-February.

Taking into account the risk premium that has been added to crude prices in response to actual and perceived threats to supply, we have now raised our benchmark OPEC basket price forecast from US$80 to US$90/bbl for 2011 and from US$85 to US$95/bbl for 2012. Based on our expectations for differentials, this gives a forecast for Brent at US$94/bbl in 2011 and US$99/bbl in 2012. We have kept our long-term price assumption of US$90/bbl (OPEC basket) in place for the time being while we wait to see what path events in the MENA region take. We have also retained our existing supply and demand forecasts until the scheduled quarterly revision at the start of April.

Argentina's real GDP rose by an estimated 8.0% in 2010, with an average annual growth rate of 4.7% forecast in 2010-2015. State entity Enarsa acts as partner to international oil companies (IOCs) in supporting output growth efforts, operating alongside regional heavyweight Repsol YPF and others. We are assuming oil production peaking at no more than 665,000b/d in 2013, with the country believed to have pumped 668,000b/d in 2010. Beyond the 2009 dip, consumption is forecast to increase by around 1.5% per annum to 2015, implying demand of 522,000b/d by the end of the forecast period. The crude oil export capability would therefore be around 116,000b/d by 2015. Gas production is forecast to increase from an estimated 43bcm in 2010 to a high of 46bcm during the period, resulting in the need for almost 10bcm of net imports by 2015, if demand grows by 15.6%.

Between 2010 and 2020, buick we are forecasting a decrease in Argentine oil production of 13.6%, with crude volumes peaking in 2013 at 665,000b/d, before falling steadily to 577,000b/d by the end of the 10-year forecast per rc helicopter and car market place iod. This reflects the country's sixth place in our updated upstream Business Environment ratings, behind Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). Its gas resources, largely privatised oil sector, licensing regime and competitive landscape work in the country's favour, but are undermined by an absence of growth potential, asset maturity and unappealing risk environment. Medium-term scope exists for Argentina to overtake Trinidad, and it should be safe from Ecuador some six points below. Argentina is well up the league table in BMI's downstream Business Environment ratings, reflecting its privatised refining and marketing segment, substantial capacity and competitive environment, offset by only moderate growth potential and a relatively high level of retail site intensity. It holds third place, behind Colombia, in the regional rankings.

EcoLPi Falcon To Go On Sale Mid-Year

Australia's next-generation EcoLPi liquid injection LPG system for Falcon will go on sale in mid-2011, providing customers with the most advanced LPG technology on the market.

The new EcoLPi in-line six-cylinder engine is a state-of-the-art, liquid phase injection, dedicated LPG powerplant that delivers impressive fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions, as well as no compromise engine performance compared to Falcon's existing petrol I6 engine.

"The introduction of EcoLPi is the next step in Ford (http://www.ford.com.au) Australia's comprehensive new product offensive, which will see close to 85 per cent of our vehicle line-up all-new or significantly updated over the next 12 months," Bob Graziano, President & CEO, Ford Australia said.

"It also represents another key pillar in Ford's plan to bring a range of sustainability initiatives to market, following the launch of Australia's first locally-produced diesel vehicle with the new SZ Territory, as well as the introduction of Ford's patented EcoBoost engine technology on Mondeo.

"Awareness of the climate change issue and its importance to consumers has seen Ford deliver a range of product actions in recent years, which have introduced sustainable technologies that are conscious of both the environment and our customers.

Liquid injection LPG is the most advanced LPG technology currently available and delivers significant driveability and operating improvements compared to the previous E-Gas venturi-style vapour system offered by Ford, including better fuel economy and substantial increases in both power and torque outputs.

"LPG is an alternative fuel that is readily available almost anywhere in Australia and provides real benefits for Australian consumers, with reduced fuel costs contributing to a significant improvement in cost of ownership," Graziano added.

"Falcon EcoLPi offers customers the power, torque and overall engine performance they expect from a traditional Aussie six, coupled with all the space, comfort and towing capability of a family sedan, while at the same time delivering the fuel costs of a sma automobile news ller car."

The cornerstone of the EcoLPi engine is the new injection system, which follows a similar fuel indu 2011 Dodge Durango R / T ction configuration to the petrol I6 engine courtesy of a new injector-based, high-pressure fuel rail that delivers liquid-state LPG fuel directly into the intake port.

Whereas traditional vapour LPG systems turn liquefied gas into vapour form before feeding it into the engine via a venturi in the throttle body, the liquid phase injection system takes the gas in liquid state all the way to the injectors.

Injecting the LPG fuel in a liquid state directly into the intake port in a more precise and contr ni ssan GTR specification olled manner generates improved engine volumetric efficiency, which delivers better fuel economy, reduced CO2 emissions and greater engine performance.  

As the LPG fuel is no longer under pressure once it is released from the injector, its sudden expansion and rapid cooling of the incoming air charge creates the ideal conditions for maximum fuel burning efficiency.  

This enables the engine to produce more power and torque, economically, and with fewer emissions.

The new EcoLPi engine develops 198 kW of power at 5000 rpm and 409 Nm of torque at 3250 rpm, which is identical to the petrol I6 engine when operating on high octane 95 RON unleaded fuel (versus regular 91 RON unleaded).

For EcoLPi that represents a 27 per cent improvement in maximum power and a 10 per cent improvement in peak torque compared to the previous generation E-Gas LPG engine, which produced 156 kW and 371 Nm.

Despite the significant increases in power and torque, fuel efficiency has also improved, along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions.

Official ADR 81/02 fuel consumption certification testing is yet to be completed, so final fuel economy data will be confirmed closer to EcoLPi vehicles going on sale mid-year.

However, preliminary testing on a Falcon EcoLPi sedan points towards an overall fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions improvement potential of 12-15 per cent for liquid phase injection technology, when compared to the previous E-Gas venturi-style vapour system.

Technical highlights of the new EcoLPi powertrain include:

New fuel rail, including injectors, designed and developed specifically for the Ford EcoLPi engine New design lightweight pistons, including low-friction ring pack Higher compression ratio (12.0:1) to improve engine thermal efficiency and fuel consumption New polymer fuel lines with a low thermal mass to keep the LPG fuel liquefied New fuel line filter and in-tank filter added to prevent system/component contamination Significant modifications to the fuel tank, including all-new internals and sub-level components, as well as a new high-pressure fuel pump New catalytic converter – high density brick and new washcoat (common with I6 petrol engine) Major calibration and engine management system modifications, including a new fuel priming strategy Transmission upgrade to the acclaimed ZF six-speed automatic on all EcoLPi variants

The new EcoLPi powertrain will be available on both Falcon sedan and Falcon Ute, with both model line-ups featuring distinctive "EcoLPi" badgin goverment technology g.

The sedan EcoLPi line-up includes Falcon XT, G6, G6E and XR6 variants, while EcoLPi on Falcon Ute extends to XL, R6 and XR6 variants, in both Cab Chassis and Styleside Box body configurations.

More than 100,000 LPG-powered Falcon vehicles have been produced since a dedicated LPG system was first introduced in mid-2000, cementing Ford's position as one of the leading alternative fuel vehicle suppliers in Australia.

Cheekily finished in the brightest citrus shade from Leyland's original palette - 'Bold as Brass' - the 1974 Executive being auctioned is equipped with the model's premium 4.4-litre V8 engine/three-speed automatic transmission power train combination.

The P76 was previously owned by the Secretary of the Leyland P76 Classic Car (http://www.shannons.com.au/insurance/motor/) Club of NSW before being purchased by the current owner in March 2008.

A full back-to-metal restoration to as near original specification as po chrysler ssible was commenced in June 2008.

During the restoration many NOS parts were used. These included all rubbers and seals, the rare cream cloth interior trim, lights, hubcaps and windscreen.

With matching engine and chassis numbers, an original specifica auto part tion and with original log books and owners' manual, Shannons expect the P76 to appeal to P76 collectors at its guiding range of $8,000-$12, dodge 000.

The P76 is one of 27 vehicles and 21 items of memorabilia currently listed for the May 2 Sydney sale.

Mexican Throughput Up On 2010 - According to figures from the Mexico's General Coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine (CGPMM), Mexican ports handled 307,206 containers in January 2011, an increase of 20% y-o-y. Most of this traffic was handled by the country's main container port, Manzanillo, which moved 126,300 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), an increase of 30% on January 2010 when it handled 96,900TEUs. Veracruz moved 55,661 containers in January, a y-o-y increase of 22.9%. The port of Lazero Cardenas handled 69,302TEUs, a y-o-y increase of 18.4%. The development is designed to take the traffic that cannot be handled by the existing terminal because of its shallow depth, whic 2011 Dodge Durango R / T h offers limited access to ships. Liquids currently have to be transported from vessels to land via 8km of floating hoses.

Risks To Outlook

On the upside, our outlook for US consumers is now slightly more positive than initially expected. According to the US National Retail Federation (NRF), retail industry sales (which exclude automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) for January increased 0.2% on a seasonally adjusted basis from December and 3.5% unadjusted y-o-y. 'In spite of the economic uncertainties that still exist, consumers are clearly demonstrating their desire to spend on discretionary items once again', said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. This cautiously optimistic outlook ties in with BMI's view on US consmer spending in 2011. We have raised our 2011 US real GDP growth forecasts to 2.8% from 2.0%, with a significant lift in private consumption being the main driver. This is good news for Mexican port which import goods destined for the US.

On the downside, our outlook for Mexican consumers remains sluggish. We expect volumes at major ports to continue recovering from the downturn as the consumer outlook brightens slightly. We expect to see continued investment in expansion and development in the port sector. This investment will be driven in some cases by rising Asian demand for US coal, which has highlighted the need for greater capacity at coal export facilities on both the east and west coast. The impending completion of the expansion of the Panama Canal will also be a major driver of investment, as east-coast ports rush to prepare for the arrival of Post-Panamax vessels in 2014, and the current west-coast hubs, LA and Long Beach, seek to minimise their losses. We note, however, that many new projects will either be privately funded, or in the form of public-private partnerships (PPPs). Obama's 2012 budget proposal reflected the fact that a large number of ports have been competing for a diminishing pool of state funds. As such, we believe PPPs will increasingly come to the fore as the most efficient way for US ports to fund projects.

Obama's Budget Proposal Buries East-Coast Dredging Hopes - BMI believes that east-coast ports campaigning for federal funding to pay for dredging projects are unlikely to succeed. President Obama's proposed 2012 budget offered little hope for ports that want to deepen their harbours to ensure they can receive the larger vessels that will pass through the Panama Canal when its US$5bn expansion is completed in 2014. Obama slashed US$913mn from the US Army Corps of Engineers' budget estimate for FY2012 - a 17% drop from the US$5.52bn allotted to the corps in 2010. The 2011 budget estimate is US$4.88bn, with the actual amount to be spent this year yet to be determined. Ports along the east coast looking to fund new deepening projects in time for the Panama Canal expansion in 2014 - Savannah, Charleston and Miami, for example - were disappointed but not surprised by the cut.

Miami Clings To Dredging Dream, State To Fund Shortfall - Miami Port Authority has welcomed the news that Florida State Governor Rick Scott plans cover a US$77mn shortfall in the port's ambitious dredging project. If the project is completed on time, it will put the port in a strong position to take advantage of increasing Post-Panamax traffic when the expansion of the Panama Canal is completed in 2014. BMI cautions, however, that the dredging process is long, as well as costly, and that Miami has already been overtaken by fellow east-coast ports New York/New Jersey and Norfolk

Imports Up At LA And Long Beach As US Consumers Splash The Cash - BMI believes that positive throughput figures for January released by the US ports of Los Angeles (LA) and Long Beach indicate the beginning of a recovery in US consumer sentiment. January marked the seventh straight month of retail sales gains in the US android application as consumers showed spending power beyond the Christmas season. This bodes well for the US box shipping sector, as growing consumer demand should translate into increasing imports of containerised goods.

Container imports at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are continuing to grow in 2011. Imports at LA increased 15% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 338,607TEUs in January, with exports up 12.6% to 159,050TEUs for the month. Imports at Long Beach rose 11% y-o-y to 242,445TEUs, with exports up 12.7% to 127,546TEUs.

Peabody Bets On mustang car Asian Coal Demand - Peabody, the world's largest private-sector coal company, has agreed a deal with port operator SSA Marine to export up to 24mn tonnes of coal a year through the planned Gateway Pacific Terminal in north-west Washington State. According to SSA Marine, permit applications for the Gateway Pacific Terminal were filed this week with state and local authorities, as well as the US Army Corps of Engineers. The application lists a fair market value for the project of US$655mn. SSA hopes to have the terminal operational by 2015, with initial capacity for 25mn tonnes a year of coal, and the potential to expand capacity to 48mn tonnes a year. Under the deal, Peabody has rights to throughput over the life of the operation and could expand its capacity in future years. BMI notes that this terminal will dwarf the joint venture by Arch Coal and Ambre Energy in nearby Longview, Washington, which will have the capacity to export 5mn tonnes a year.

Risks To Outlook

Downside risks to our outlook present themselves in the form of a slower-than-expected recovery in US consumer demand. Our lacklustre outlook for the US economy, and in particular worries over high unemployment, could negatively affect consumer spending. In turn, this would have a negative effect on import levels.

Labour unrest at the Port of Callao continues to be a concern. Port operations were disrupted by strike action at Muelle Norte in late January and continued in early February. The dispute was politicised, with labour unions and opposition parties seeking to challenge plans to award a private sector concession to run the terminal. There were also separate concerns that the concession might be awarded to DP World, which already operates a terminal and would therefore have a potentially monopolistic or quasimonopolistic position in Callao.
