Fast Track Leads to Close Finishes

race cars were definitely on the edge of their seats from the start of the night.

Of the six UMP sanctioned features, the Touchstone Energy Sportsman class provided the most drama as two lead changes over the 15 laps got the feature portion of the night going on the right foot. Although the race was plagued with cautions, the green flag racing was incredible as Taylorville's Scott Landers, Argenta's Nick Macklin and Shelbyville's Rick Roedel went back and forth. Landers had control of the race but Macklin stayed close running on the bottom groove. Roedel looked like a third-place finisher but found momentum on the high side and caught up to the top two drivers. Including Decatur's Mike Pickering come the 11th lap, the checkered flag was up for grabs between the four drivers. A caution followed and set up a single-file restart which saw four frantic laps to the finish and it would be Roedel again taking the high side to pass both Macklin and then Landers in the second turn of the 14th lap to claim his first Touchstone Energy Sportsman feature since September 12, 2009, the year Roedel won the division's track championship. Landers finished runner-up with Macklin in third, Pickering took four and Bob Sidener was the fifth place finisher.

Jeremy Nichols from Decatur used the bottom groove in the Billingsley Towing Modified feature to claim his second feature of 2011. Chased by Aaron Burcham and Guy Taylor, Nichols wasn't giving away the lead and set up his car similar to the way he raising chickens did for a feature win in 2010. Burcham was able to hold off Taylor for second. Buffalo's Joe Strawkas was fourth and Macon's Eric Hamilton was able to finish fifth.

Kyle Logue, native of Cisco, also was a second-time feature winner Saturday as he used his patience to ease past Cory Daugherty and Roger Brickler. Starting behind the pole-sitter Brickler, Logue held back and let the race begin and once the cars started to separate, he made his move atop the high banks of the speedway and by the ninth lap of 25, Logue was leading. Daughtery from Blue Mound raced along the top side for the majority of the race but couldn't catch up to Logue and took second. Springfield's Brian Diveley also ran high and took third ahead of fast qualifier Brickler. Collinsville's Rick Standridge was able to snatch fifth.

Another driver to win his second feature of the year was Street Stock driver Larry Russell, Jr. Feature winless since Opening Night, Russell was able to lead all 12 laps and starve off the fierce competition in Blake Shelley, Terry Reed and Bobby Beiler. In the end, Russell was the faster car, ahead of Shelley, Mike Pickering, Justin Hi goverment technology ll and Mike Pundt, Jr.

The Hornet classes saw close racing as well it came down to the final lap in the Pro Hornet feature. Jeremy Reed won his first feature since 2007. He managed to stop Heidi Hames, Fred Reed, Jr. and Adam Webb from ni ssan GTR specification stealing his spotlight. Hames' car would fall apart late in the race which opened up the door for Jeremy Reed to win. Fred Reed, Jr. came second with Adam Webb, who flipped his car during the heat race, came out to a strong third place, Todd Rush was fourth and Steven Stine was fifth.

Another eventful feature, the Amateur Hornet feature, had Derek Peters win. Coming in a close second was Garrett Lewis and Jared Matherly took third. Jenny Clinton was able to get fourth and Kenneth Reed was the fifth place car.

TAG Reports Substantial Year-End Reserve Increase to its Taranaki Basin Oil and Gas Fields

PRLog (Press Release)– May 19, 2011– TAG Oil Ltd. (TSX-V: TAO) and (OTCQX: TAOIF) reports that an independent assessment of reserves has been completed as of March 31, 2011 on TAG Oil's 100%-owned Cheal Mining Permit (PMP 38156) and Sidewinder Exploration Permit (PEP 38748), located in the Taranaki Basin, New Zealand. Sproule International Limited, one of Canada's largest petroleum engineering consulting companies prepared the report in accordance with definitions, standards and procedures contained in the Canadian Oil and G acura as Evaluation Handbook (COGE Handbook) and National Instrument 51-101, Standards of Disclosure for Oil and Gas Activities.

The reserves reported for the 2011 fiscal year relate primarily to the Cheal oil and gas field due to fiscal year-end 2011 cut-offs required under NI-51-101. Due to the timing of operations occurring after March 31, 2011, the Sidewinder reserve assessment was completed with information related only to the Sidewinder-1 well and does not include the now-completed Sidewinder-2, Sidewinder-3 and Sidewinder-4 wells.

The assessment of reserves has assigned net proved and probable reserves ("2P") remaining of 1,360,000 barrels of oil (2010 = 651,000 bbls) and 1,864 million cubic feet ("mmcf") of associated gas (2010 = 258 mmcf). This reserves report, on a 2P basis, amounts to 1,677,000 barrels of oil equivalent ("BOE") assessed within a reserves area covering just 475 acres of the 7,487-acre Cheal permit and just 107 acres of the 7,910-acre Sidewinder permit.

After considering production during the 2011 fiscal year, the 1,677,000 BOE in proved and probable reserves represents a 221% increase over the March 31, 2010 year-end independent reserve assessment. The key factors for the increase in reserves for fiscal 2011 are as follows:

- One new well drilled and completed - Establishment of commercial production from a bypassed discovery - Increased recovery factors   - Upward revision to projected future well performance

During the 2011 fiscal year, TAG focused primarily on optimizing the production from the producing Cheal wells. This resulted in an increase in the recovery factors being assigned to the Mt. Messenger Formation. In addition, TAG was successful in establishing the first-ever commercial produc chrysler tion from the bypassed Urenui Formation oil discovery, using two historical wells drilled at Cheal by the previous operator. Having successfully completed these operations, Cheal now produces from both the Urenui and Mt. Messenger Formations at approximate depths of 1400m (~4600 feet) and 1800m (~5900 feet), respectively.  

TAG Oil's Chief Executive Officer, Garth Johnson, commented, "We are very pleased to follow fiscal 2010's reserve increase with another large increase in fiscal 2011, even after having produced ~160,000 barrels of oil during the year. This report has established initial reserves within the Sidewinder discovery area, where the majority of our operations occurred after year-end and could not be considered for fiscal 2011 reserves. The commercialization of the Urenui oil discovery has also allowed us to book initial reserves and is another low-risk opportunity to build reserves in Taranaki from this widespread formation identified at Cheal."

I actually kept hoping that they'd keep discovering more people in Cole's Summer Camp photo so that they'd have more targets. The entire thing played out like a video game, with mini-boss after mini-boss leading up to "The Big One" himself, Jordan Chase. The idea of having a motivational speaker be a closeted sadist was really grand. Jonny Lee Miller's Chase had moments of extraordinary "dimension" as one could totally tell that he was more than just a bulls*** artist. He liked helping people turn their lives around. He thrived on helping people "transform." I only wish there hadn't been that throw-away line in the finale where he insulted the "idiots" who came to his seminars. I also kind of wished he'd laid out a row of tire spikes to wreck Dexter's car, instead of Dexter just crashing into that construction crane. It would have made the whole scenario feel like more of a trap.

This season started out extremely stilted, with things not really picking up until the third episode, "Practically Perfect." Once the traumatized and battered Lumen entered into the picture, business picked up – but not fully. Then, from there, it wasn't until episode 6, "Everything Is Illumenated," that everything kicked into high gear. We were all chomping at the bit for Dexter and Lumen to fully team up and decide to, whole-heartedly, go after the brutes that tortured her, but there were some necessary relationship speedbumps that had to be smoothed out. Conversations needed to be had that sounded like "you need to go back home and forget all about this" and stubborn stances needed to be taken. Once that was plowed through, the show found its footing and the blood could start pouring.

Now, I happened to really enjoy Stiles' performance as Lumen. This was a very hard character to play and I don't think anyone could have fully done Lumen justice. As much as I wanted her and Dexter to cut to the quick, team up and fall in love, there were some dues that had to be paid. Just the fact that Stiles, believably, carried us through "Beauty and the Beast" and "First Blood" without us hating her, is almost a revelation. This character, at the outset, could have been grating simply because we know who Dexter is and we know he saved her life. Anyone who doesn't appreciate Dexter for who he is, on this series, is an obstacle. So the fact that Stiles could, in just a handful of episodes, make believe her transformation from obstacle to partner, while still maintaining the resonance of her recent ungodly 1086274749  trauma, was actually incredible. And then, by "Teenage Wasteland" and "Hop a Freighter," she'd pretty much blended into Dexter's life seamlessly. The way she took to Astor and seemed at home in Dexter's house didn't feel rushed at all, even though it was.

As much as it might have fallen into "Dexter doesn't need this s*** right now," I did like Dexter's arc with Astor, and as a teen girl who'd just lost her mother to a brutal murder, she had every right to get up in Dexter's non-emotive grill and chew him out. She gets a pass. And it was great to see Dexter reconnect with her and even have his final scene of the entire season with her. Because, as much as we might have wanted to forget about it because the kill spree was so much fun to watch, the season was about Dexter finding redemption for Rita. I think the fact that he found such a soul-mate in Lumen helped us push the entire Rita saga into the background a bit more.

2013 BMW M5 Twin-Turbo V8 Revealed

PRLog (Press Release) – May 17, 2011 – MUNICH, Germany — The first unofficial photos have surfaced online of ni ssan GTR specification the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that will power the next-generation BMW M5. The all-new sedan, which was previewed last month as a concept at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, is slated to arrive at dealers in spring 2012, most likely as a 2013 model.

BMW said the V8 in the new M5 will be mated to a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic (a six-speed manual will likely be available as an option in the U.S.). European press reports have speculated the car will accelerate from zero to 60 in less than 4.4 seconds, with top speed electronically limited (in some markets) to 155 mph.

BMW also said the new V8 will be fitted with an automatic stop-start function that will help trim fuel consumption and emissions by 25 percent or more. A limited-slip differential will also be part of the package.

The new M5 gets a tuned and lowered M suspension and M-specific steering, as well as unique 20-inch forged alloy wheels shod with 265/35ZR20 tires. The car also features a new Active M rear differential with variable torque split.

Ukraine Metals Report Q2 2011: New research report available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release)– May 16, 2011– Ukrainian steel production growth will be more subdued in 2011 following strong growth last year, while cost pressures caused by the rising prices of gas and scrap will continue to erode margins.

Ukraine's crude steel output totalled 33.56mn tonnes in 2010, up 12.8%, which was higher than the 32.60mn tonnes BMI had estimated. Finished steel production grew 9.0% to 29.20mn tonnes, pig iron was up 6.5% to 27.35mn tonnes and coke output rose 6.8% to 18.58mn tonnes. While growth was strong, crude output was still 22% down on 2007 pre-crisis levels. At the same time, the metallurgical sector registered a total loss of UAH3.84bn (US$490mn), although losses were 60% down on the previous year.

According to preliminary data, in the January-February period of 2011 Ukraine registered a 13% year-onyear (y-o-y) increase in its finished steel product output to 4.90mn tonnes and 9% growth in crude steel output to 5.54mn tonnes. In addition, its pig iron output growth 4% to 4.62mn tonnes and coke production growth of 10% to 3.16mn tonnes. Production of steel pipes was up 66% to 348,000 tonnes. BMI believes that, auto part based on a decline in growth both in export and domestic markets, crude output will be around 36mn tonnes, representing growth of 7.2%, while hot-rolled output is acura set to rise 9.0% to 29.85mn tonnes.

The cost of production of steel in Ukraine grew 40% y-o-y to US$137/tonne by end-2010. Domestic iron ore prices grew 96%, coal increased 77% and scrap rose 55%. Metallurgprom has warned that the country's steelmakers are likely to see their annual production costs increase by a further UAH3.4bn (US$427mn) due to higher natural gas prices, iron ore and coking coal prices. On the upside, the price of gas sold to the EU will rise by a larger amount, giving Ukrainian producers some leeway in passing on higher costs to consumers without undermining competitiveness.

Pressure on the hryvnia will also improve the competitiveness of the steel industry, although this will largely benefit blast furnaces reliant on locally mined iron ore. EAFs will be in competition for scrap feedstock, which is becoming more expensive. High costs prompted the Electrostal EAF plant to temporarily halt production due to high domestic scrap prices in February while the Donetsk Electrometallurgical Plant (DEMZ) began importing scrap from Kazakhstan to offset the cost of more expensive domestic scrap. Meanwhile, the prospect of shortages prompted steelmaker Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works (DMKD) to seek alternatives such as hot briquetted iron. High scrap prices were expected to be short term, but demonstrate the pressures on producer margins, particularly EAFs. In 2012, Interpipe will commission its new electric steelmaking plant which will require about 1.4mn tonnes per annum (tpa) of scrap. As a result, Ukraine is expected to see a shortage of around 700,000-800,000tpa of scrap on the domestic market, a situation that could push up costs. This will represent an enormous increase in scrap imports, which are typically under 100,000tpa.

Although we expect a full recovery in aluminium by 2015, this is dependent on RusAl maintaining its operations in Ukraine. Debt-ridden RusAl indicated even before the financial crisis that it may close the 130,000tpa Zaporizhsky Alyuminievy Kombinat (Zalk) smelter as it was unprofitable to keep it running due to high electricity prices. Output from the smelter has declined from 112,800 tonnes in 2008 to 50,000 tonnes in 2009 and just 25,000 tonnes in 2010. In January 2011, RusAl said that the loss-making plant could close permanently or sold off, but said a decision would be based on the Ukrainian government's decision on power tariffs. However, the new government of President Yanukovych has stated that it will maintain the policy of the previous government and refuse to cut prices for ZALK. Until RusAl announces that it will close Zalk, BMI forecasts a return to full capacity within five years.
